The Secretary of State, Colonial Office.

Sir,

I submit this my application for your kind consideration. Applicant is anxious (for family reasons) to be transferred from the Colonial to the Force Government, and if such a step is favourable, I trust that you will consider it as favourably as possible.

Applicant joined the Hong Kong Escort Force in April 1912 and served in that Force up to March 1916, and was then transferred to the Imports & Exports Department (being sworn in as Revenue Officer at a salary of £240). He joined the Police Force at a salary of £270 with free quarters.

Applicant held the rank of Acting Sergeant while in the Escort Force, bore an excellent character, and was in possession of a 1st Certificate in Chinese. Applicant's service as Revenue Officer has also been satisfactory.

In confirmation of the above statements, I would refer you directly to the Hon. Capt. Supt of Police, Hong Kong, and the Secretary of Imports & Exports, Hong Kong.

During his service in the Escort Force, Applicant held the rank of Staff Instructor, Hong Kong Police Reserve.

Applicant is quite willing to serve in any capacity that he may be deemed suitable for.

I trust that you will give this my application your kind consideration.

I have, Sir, the honour to be,

Your most obedient Servant,

C. Lanigan
